It is located 400km south east of Addis Abeba. Bale with its outstanding beauty offers the best place in Ethiopia for trekking next to Simein Mountains. The bale mountains were formed from Lava out pouring in the Miocene and Oligocene Geological periods between 38 and 7million years ago prior to the formation of the rift valley lakes. It was established to conserve the endemic mammals like mountain nyala,simein fox and menelik’s bush buck.
Bale mountain national park is also the best place for bird watching tours and botanical studies.
The park stretched an area more than 2400km2 with in altitude range from 1500m-4337m…TulluDimtu(4377m) the second highest mountain in Ethiopia after Rasdashen is found with In this park . The park is also the center of endemics and reserves of known and unknown genetic resources.
The park encompasses the magnificent high altitude plateaus, volcanic plugs, rivers and springs
Flora and fauna
There are more than 46 mammal species, 200bird species and 1600plant species are found in this park.17of the mammals, 16 of the bird species and, 160 of the plant species are endemic to Ethiopia.
Tullu Dimtu, the area where one can enjoy scenic beauty, adventure of cold weather and viewed the endemic and rare mammal red fox.
Bale Mountain is best visited from November to March where the weather becomes clear and warm. We can visit also from May to July even though there are frequent showers in the evening but it not advisable to visit the park from august to October since there is frequent and abandon rain falls .
Temperature varies in this park from 0c to 27 c.
